The Botanical Garden of the Montagnes Noires
On the borders of Finistère, Morbihan and Côtes d'Armor, perched at 144 meters, the Montagnes Noires Botanical Garden was born in 1993 from the marriage of the landscape/masonry company (1976) and the nursery ( 1983).
A true living catalog, the nursery had more than 700 taxa in culture, which represented the largest collection in France.
Today, only 1/3 of this collection is represented at the Montagnes Noires Botanical Garden which extends over 5 hectares.
It is above all a landscaped garden which gives pride of place to nature, where the arrangements have been designed harmoniously
and organized to have minimal maintenance.
A garden of varied design, where the main lines develop an English-style garden, supported by thematic gardens, French-style, Italian-style…
The shades of green produced by the conifers rub shoulders with very colorful species: summer and winter heather, rhododendrons, camellias, azaleas mollis…
The garden must rhyme with walks and a living environment
pleasant, and not slavery, while retaining an element of dream. p>
By taking care to arrange each space, to vary the species according to their size and flowering, we can have a garden in which life is good every season.
The Ker al levenez association (the village of well-being) has managed and run the Montagnes Noires botanical garden since 2019.
André COZIC, creator of the botanical garden
Landscaper and nurseryman, but above all a passionate collector of plants, André Cozic, now retired but still active, was one of the holders of the CCVS (Conservatory of Specialized Plant Collections) label for conifers dwarves.
Through his work, André wanted to demonstrate to his visitors, experienced or novice, that the design of a garden can be analyzed over the long term.
Reconciling people with their gardens: developing and enjoying their space without being a slave to it !
